We all have “that” friend… “Like, OMG democratic socialism is the only way we can save America #CRAPitalism”.

And in response, have you ever thought, “Man, if only I had a podcast I could share with [INSERT COMMIE FRIEND NAME HERE] where the host interviewed someone who grew up in a communist hellhole who could speak to the atrocities of socialism and communism from their experiencing it first hand?”

If you answered yes to either of these particularly specific questions, then boy oh boy do I have an episode for you!

On today’s episode of The Brian Nichols Show, I am joined by Lily Tang Williams! Williams grew up in Communist China under Mao Zedong and earned her B.S. in law from Fudan University in 1985, one of China’s top five universities, and her M.S. in social work (upon moving to the United States) from the University of Texas at Austin in 1991.

Lily was the Libertarian nominee in 2014 to run for the State of Representatives in District 44 and is the former state chair of the Libertarian Party and Libertarian nominee in 2016 for U.S. Senate in Colorado. Listen as we discuss Lily’s amazing story from living in Mao’s Communist China, coming to America, discovering the concepts of liberty, and subsequently pursuing elected office as a Libertarian. Finally, Lily gives her dire warning to those who are “socialism/communism curious”… it’s a message you can’t miss (and one I ask you to share with all your friends and family).

Lily’s Bio: Lily Tang Williams was the Libertarian nominee for U.S. Senate in Colorado. Born before China’s Cultural Revolution in Sichuan province, the wild west of China, Lily was raised with her two brothers by illiterate working-class parents. She grew up under Mao’s regime, enduring poor living conditions; food rationing; Communist indoctrination; and political and social chaos. In this tumultuous environment, she quickly developed street smarts and compassion, as well as the values of perseverance and hard work.

Lily received her university law degree at Fudan University in Shanghai and was a faculty member of the law school for three years. She came to the U.S. in 1988 to earn a Master’s degree at the University of Texas at Austin, School of Social Work.

Subsequently, Lily worked for corporations in Hong Kong and the U.S as a corporate executive. She then became a Colorado small business woman and entrepreneur in 2000.

Lily was nominated as a candidate by the Libertarian Party of Colorado in March of 2014 to run for the State of Representatives in District 44. She is the former state chair of the Libertarian Party of Colorado and currently State Director for Our America Initiative.

Lily is a grassroots activist and professional speaker. She has been outspoken promoting civil liberties, economic freedom, less intrusive government, and other policies that maximize personal freedom. She is an inspirational speaker to many people. Lily has been married to John Williams for 26 years. They have lived in Parker, Colorado for 17 years, with their children and German Shepherd Ajiao (which means ‘cute and proud’ in Mandarin). In addition to political activities, Lily takes care of family and business. She also enjoys traveling, cooking, music, soccer, poker and ping pong.
