Spangle: Government Shut Downs Make Things Worse

Tucker Carlson opens with a clip from the World Health Organization proposing entering people’s homes to “extract” the sick to protect public health. Some localities are floating the idea of closing groceries. Civil unrest is the inevitable outcome. Even if you dislike Tucker Carlson, he makes several points here very effectively. Mainly that only keeping grocery stores makes it a central gathering place for everyone in a zip code and it becomes a hot spot.

As I said two weeks ago and have said consistently: People were always going to adjust their behavior to protect themselves and their family and governments enforcing shutdowns make things worse. Are you avoiding places because of your own self-interest or because the government said so?

It’s enforced unevenly and benefits those with the best lobbyists. It makes absolutely no sense to close things like parks or open-air businesses for instance. Many businesses would have (and did) shut down voluntarily to protect their employees and customers.
