Lindsey: There is a Reason that Liberty is a Woman

This article originally appeared on the blog of Heretic, the magazine of We Are Libertarians.

I hate to make this pitch as a man, but if you’re a woman, I really hope you’ll consider joining the liberty movement today.

On one side, there’s Trump. All we really need to do is talk about the obvious. “I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything… Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.” Look, I get that it’s not rape. Just like saying, “If you’re rich, black people will let you do anything. Throw chains on them, I don’t even ask,” isn’t technically slavery. It’s just saying how stupid and easy to control they are. It’s really no surprise the Women’s March happened upon his election, he hasn’t been nice to them. Telling a contestant that the fantasy of her dropping to her knees is a pretty sight… Yuck.

On the other side, there’s Biden. Even if the Reade allegation turns out to be unable to be proven, this does not dismiss the many, many pictures of him grabbing little girls in filthy ways. For so many men, the #MeToo movement woke them up to seeing the uncomfortable look on women being assaulted and taking action. For Biden and the left, he’ll do it in front of cameras and not a single person stops him. Perhaps most disturbing of all is the surge of people that say they believe Tara Reade… and will vote for their rapist anyhow. It is a position that started with just a few scattered and unverified Twitter accounts. Personally, I thought they were so bad they couldn’t be real. Now it’s boldly proclaimed and headlined by the New York Times: “I Believe Tara Reade. I’m Voting for Joe Biden Anyway.” It’s now a mainstream opinion that when it comes to Democratic political victory. Women aren’t just tokens, they’re obstacles.

I want to stress that this is not a call to change political parties. The Libertarian Party is about to run a pro-life candidate for president. He’s free of all the hush money to porn stars and groped little children that the other two flaunt in our faces, but it’s still a legitimate concern.

No, what I’m asking for is a change in revolution, not a political one, but a social one. The liberty movement in America was founded by women and today we still have women hold an equal standard as men; it’s utterly non-negotiable. If you are molested, I don’t care if it’s 60 years or 6 seconds after the attack, you should be encouraged to speak up. Not just an “I hear you, I see you,” like Alyssa Milano delivered to Reade, but a full, “I will go to bat for you.” Yes, I know some claims are sometimes false, but that’s all the more reason to take the charges seriously and investigate them deeply. And even if it can’t be proven and the statutes of limitations have run out, at least we know you’ve spoken your side and can act accordingly.

Join the liberty revolution. Stop casting your efforts and placing your rights into the hands of monsters. You, the individual, are the smallest minority. We will not merely tolerate your voice; we need it. We crave it. Stop shouting through a plastic bag the patriarchy of old has held over your head and lift up the megaphone that activists all over the world are desperate for you to use. Please, for my sake, not even just yours, I hope you’ll consider it.
